More about BarCamp and "Open Space" We're inviting all Western Montana computer professionals, scientists, web designers, students, companies, and entrepreneurs who are involved in the computer technology industry to the first Missoula BarCamp. Many conference attendees report that the best part is meeting colleagues during the breaks. A BarCamp brings a high level of interactivity and engaged exchange to the entire event. This isn't a place to sit and have stuff crammed into your head. A BarCamp is a self organizing conference built with leading edge social technology which is simple but evolutionary. Bring your best ideas and expect to get the same from the other attendees. BarCamp came as a response to Tim O'Reilly's "FooCamp" which brought the best and brightest computer programmers and authers together to move and shake the industry, but it was by invitation only. And it happened only once a year. BarCamp is open, happens many times all over the world. Now it has come to Missoula. The event will be facilitated using "Open Space Technology" by Harold Shinsato. Harold has been a computer professional since he graduated with a Computer Science degree from MIT in 1984. He is also a trained facilitator and lead an Open Space event for SAP in San Jose in 2007. Early registration is highly recommended to ensure adequate facilities and supplies. Due to donations we are able to offer this event below cost, $5 for early registrations, and $10 after April 23. BarCamp 2009 - a big Success |
Thank you to everyone who helped make Missoula BarCamp 2009 a success!
Thanks to our sponsoring organizations, MTWDA, SafeGuard, MAEDC, MATR, ModWest, GrupThink, Le Petit Outre, and KDXT. A big thank you to the volunteers that helped produce the event, including Nick Shonz (for webhosting, early guidance, and setup), Jennifer & Nathan Stephens (for too many things to list in a sentence), Andy Laken (for early guidance), all the session convenors, and all the people who asked during the event, "how can I help", or who just did what they saw was needed. And thanks most of all to the community just for showing up and being brilliant. It was a privilege to hear your thoughts, experience, expertise, enthusiasm, and passion.
The community clearly wants another BarCamp next year. The best way to make sure that happens is to keep building the community. Here are some ways you can contribute:
1) Use the wiki to read and post session notes and whatever else you might think we need there. 2) Visit the flickr and facebook pages to post pictures and comments about the event. Use the tag MissoulaBarCamp2009. 3) Tweet about the event. Use hashtag #MissoulaBarCamp2009 in your post. 4) Volunteer to help organize the next event. There are any number of ways to contribute. 5) Consider participating in any number of local meetings, including the Missoula 501 Tech Club, Missoula Linux Users Group, Montana Coders , and many more. |
